Pahrump is a booming rural town where the warm desert climate, land availability,
clean air and wealth of opportunity make it the fastest growing unincorporated
town in the state, and one of the fastest growing in the nation. An active
town board and a well-staffed town office serve the Pahrump Valley. Former
farmland is being developed for residential and commercial use. The area has
chain supermarkets, casinos, hotels, gas stations, restaurants, fast food
establishments, and a large variety of retail shops and commercial enterprises.
Industry is as diverse as it's people. With a current population of over
36,000 Pahrump continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
The town's proximity to Las Vegas (60 miles) via a relatively new four-lane
highway makes for easy access to rail and air service. Pahrump is also the
closest town to the Nevada Test Site. Numerous real estate agents, developers,
and contractors make for high quality and affordable developments of any size.
Depending on individual preference, large rural lots and developed communities
are available.

The Railroad Tie House was built in the
1940s by Stanley Ford, and is now located at
the Pahrump Valley Museum.
The Pahrump Valley was named by traveling bands of nomadic Southern Paiutes
for the natural artesian water that was then present (pah=water, rump=rock).
Although originally inhabited by the Shoshone, in the late 1800s American
settlers discovered and gradually settled the area. Large ranches (mostly
over 1,000 acres in size) were started where alfalfa, cotton, grapes, and
livestock were raised. The ranches were supported by the artesian wells.
The Pahrump Township was created by a small group of settlers in 1892. The
area didn't kick off until after the Las Vegas road (Hwy 160) was paved in
1954. Power arrived in 1963 and telephones in 1965. The second paved road
to hit town was Hwy 372, which led to Shoshone, CA and the Death Valley area.
Pahrump has grown from approximately 2,000 residents in 1980, to 24,641 in
the 2000 census, to it's current 33,000 plus population.
