Ground Transportation
Nye County is fortunate to enjoy the benefits of a major north / south U.S.
highway. This highway serves as a linkage between Canada and Mexico. It
runs north up through Oregon and south into California. U.S. Hwy 95 also
serves Nevada as the primary ground route between Reno in the north and Las
Vegas in the south. This highway intersects Interstate 15 in Las Vegas to
provide a transportation link to southern California, Arizona, and other markets.
U.S. Hwy 95 intersects U.S. Hwy 6 up in Tonopah providing a link to central
California and Utah. Up in the Reno area, U.S. Hwy 95 intersects Interstate
80 to provide a transportation link to northern California and Utah.
Pahrump, the largest town in Nye County, is served by a relatively new 4-lane divided state highway (State Hwy 160), which links it to Las Vegas (only 60 miles away). On the other end, Hwy 160 ends at U.S. Hwy 95 providing a link to other Nye County towns like Amargosa, Beatty, and Tonopah. Not all regions within the county are well served. Communities like Gabbs and Round Mountain remain somewhat isolated requiring travel along smaller state highways. Source: Nevada Department of Transportation |
