The Goldwell Open Air Museum is located just outside of the ghost town of Rhyolite
and approximately 4 miles west of Beatty, off Nevada Hwy 374. The museum began in
1984 when a Belgian artist by the name of Albert Szukalski created the first
sculpture at this location. His interpretation of the Last Supper is awe-inspiring
against the backdrop of the Amargosa desert. Since its creation, the museum has
had 6 other sculptures added to the collection by 3 other prominent Belgian artists.
This 7.8 acre outdoor sculpture site contains 7 thought-provoking sculptures
including the pink lady, a steel prospector, and more. It is open to the public
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so come by and enjoy these works of art. Parking
is available. There is an on-site visitor center and gift shop which are open
some weekends, September through May. Entry to the open air museum is free.
The museum is run by a nonprofit 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deductible.
