Gaming
Everyone knows that Nevada and gaming are synonymous. Gaming was legalized in
Nevada in 1931 and since then the state has become a major tourist destination
for those seeking to strike it rich. From the cities like Las Vegas to the
rural towns, gaming is almost everywhere throughout the state. Nye County
also has many establishments where one can try their luck. This includes
casinos, as well as bars, grocery and convenience stores, and other retail
establishments. Gaming is a profitable industry that brings both jobs and
income to our communities. As an industry, it cannot be overlooked.
The following pictures represent just a few of Nye County's gaming establishments.
The Nevada Gaming Commission and the State Gaming Control Board regulate gaming in the State of Nevada. Rules for conduct and regulation are set forth in the Nevada Revised Statutes. The following charts represent the taxable revenue, for those locations with
nonrestricted gaming licenses, generated by gaming both in the state of Nevada
and within Nye County. While prominent areas like Las Vegas and Reno bring
in the majority of the taxable gaming revenue for the state, Nye County still
brings in a fair amount, over 67 million in 2006. The drop in gaming revenue
in 2001 is contributed to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade
Center. However in 2002 the revenue started to climb once again, though for
a couple years the increase was not as significant. In Nye County the revenue
did not drop in any year but the increase leveled off for a couple years
following the attack.
