Great Basin College (GBC)
Great Basin College - Pahrump Valley Center
is a 16 classroom, 34,000 square foot brick building which was funded by a $3.5
million grant from the Nevada Legislature and a $1.3 million U.S. Economic
Development Admin. grant. It opened for classes in September of 2001.
Great Basin College - Pahrump Valley Center is located adjacent
to Pahrump Valley High School. The facility has a computer lab layout and
features a physics lab, a 1,200 square foot arts room, video conferencing
capabilities and a CISCO training lab.
Classes cover a wide range of subjects, all aimed at earning an Associate degree.
University transfer and Career and Technical Education courses are taught in
all areas of science and humanities. Associate of Arts, Associate of Science
and Associate of Applied Science degree programs are currently available. The
degrees prepare students for satisfying careers in a variety of areas, and

schools in the Nevada System of Higher Education.
In addition to the Pahrump Valley Center, GBC courses will
be delivered to communities throughout Nye County using an assortment of
distance education technologies, including Interactive Video and Internet
delivery. Plans are in the making for the construction of a campus center
on the southeastern edge of Pahrump.
Great Basin College was founded in 1967 and provides for the
higher education needs of rural Nevada. It is a member institution of the Nevada
System of Higher Education. Its 62,000 square mile service area encompasses Elko,
Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Nye and White Pine counties, touching the borders
of California, Idaho, Oregon and Utah.
