Death Valley is located near the Nevada/California border
just 1/2 hour drive from Beatty, NV (the closest town to the valley floor) and
slightly longer from Amargosa, NV. Both towns have hotel/casino resorts for
the weary traveler. Death Valley is a land known for its extreme hot, dry
climate. Summer temperatures average over 100° Fahrenheit with the hottest
recorded temperature having been 134° way back in 1913. Temperatures in the
120s are not uncommon. This year's high mark was 129°. Death Valley receives
an average annual rainfall of 1.96 inches making it the driest place on the
continent. It sits 282 feet below sea level making it the lowest point in
the western hemisphere. It's a land of extremes, harshness is present and
yet there is a beauty about it that one must see to believe. From the enchanting
wildflowers to the magnificent Golden Canyon, one must stand in awe of the
beauty there. Come and visit, and while you're here, stop and see the ghost
town of Rhyolite just outside of Beatty or one of our other area attractions.
