EDEN is a proud sponsor of the Nevada Boomtown History Event 2007 which took place on February 15-18, 2007. This year's conference covered the mining camp history of the central Nevada region. Many tours were offered to different areas including Greenwater Canyon, Strozzi Ranch, Echo Canyon, and Round Mountain.

Wonderful presentations were made by many inspirational speakers. Noted author and professor Sally Zanjani walked us through the streets of Goldfield looking for entertainment in the boomtown days. Freelance journalist Robin Flinchum spoke about Joe Gans and the Gans-Nelson Lightweight Championship of the World title fight that went an astounding 42 rounds.

Gans-Nelson Fight 1906
She recounted how Joe Gans edged his way into the hearts of the people and became the 'unlikely hero'. Mining engineer Dan Kump gave a talk on the Bullfrog Mine comparing the equipment and methods used in 1906 to current day techniques. Geologist Frank Fenne discussed the gold of Round Mountain, the largest gold mine in Nye County, and the process of searching for and locating the gold veins. Tinker Fannin and her mother Shirley Henle shared their family pictures spanning 100 years in a Nevada mining camp. Many other notable speakers shared their knowledge with us. We wish to thank them all for their wonderful presentations.

The weekend also included great dinner parties where many dressed in the finery of 100 years ago. Men in top hats and tails, women in gorgeous dresses with bustles and, of course, the fancy hats of the period. We were entertained with a 'revealing peeling' where Lady Carolyn Lostis went through and explained the many layers of dress that women of that period had to wear and the purpose of each item. We also got to dance to and enjoy the country pickin' of local favorite Countyline. The Clampers ended the conference with a dedication of the Jack Longstreet plaque permanently affixed outside the Longstreet Hotel and Casino.

We want to thank everyone who made this event the success it was. We are proud of Nevada's mining heritage.
