Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

Located in the Amargosa Valley, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for at least 24 animals and plants found nowhere else worldwide. Four animals (Devils Hole pupfish, Ash Meadow Amargosa pupfish, Warm Springs pupfish, and Ash Meadow speckled dace) found here are on the endangered species list as well as one plant (Amargosa niterwort). Several more are considered threatened. This is a place for the nature buff. Among favorite activities at the refuge are wildlife observation, hunting, and picnicking. Some may brave swimming the waters of Crystal Lake but swimmer's itch is likely if you do.
