Age Distribution | Race/Ethnic Origin
Nye County has a large senior population, above the state average of 11% and
the national average of approximately 12%. On the other hand, the population
of children in the county is lower than the state and national averages.
The county's senior population is increasing. This trend is reflected in the
9% jump from 12% to 21%, from 1990 to 2005. The child population went from 26%
to 21%. However, with the large numbers of people moving to Nye County, this
does not reflect an actual loss in the total number of children in the county,
only in the adult to children ratio.
Rural Nevada is becoming a great retirement place for those who want a warm climate and still want access to the cultural amenities, which are within reasonable driving distances of Nye County. The ability to live in a peaceful environment but still be close enough to drive to Las Vegas and California is appealing.
